Due to recent growing humanitarian needs within Europe and the rise of local volunteer response groups, in line with the AidEx theme ‘Localisation’, HLA will run a workshop in partnership with our EU Aid Volunteers Initiative (EUAVI) consortium.
A notable feature of the humanitarian response to the movement of refugees and migrants in Europe over the past 12 months has been the scale and scope of the support provided by local volunteer groups. While humanitarian aid organisations have often been slow to respond, local volunteers were able to launch their own action very quickly. However, there were often gaps in the provision of assistance for a variety of reasons; among these was the disconnection between international aid organisations and volunteer groups.
The event will aim to reflect on this experience, exchange information and collect learning that will be shared by HLA and our EUAVI partners to inform future good practice in humanitarian volunteering.
Your attendance and participation will be a valuable contribution to this increasingly relevant topic in humanitarian aid.
We would be grateful if you could share this notice with your colleagues and networks.
We look forward to meeting you at MSF in Brussels and to a fruitful discussion!
This project is co-funded by the European Union for the EU Aid Volunteers Initiative.
